While both vice presidential candidates succeeded in their only debate of the campaign Thursday night, the stakes were much higher and the bar was much lower for Palin. So, in the contest of low expectations, Palin won.
So, for everyone out in the peanut gallery, Palin didn't sound exactly like the blithering, bumbling idiot she did during the Katie Curic debacle! SHE IS TEH UBER VP PICK EVA ZOMG!!1!11!!!
” Uh, nukuler weaponry, of course, would be the be-all, end-all of just too many people and too many parts of our planet so those dangerous regimes again cannot be allowed to acquire nukuler weapons, period.”
SOME REPUBLICANS ARE JUST A BUNCH OF F*CKING MORONS
I couldn't help myself, hadda post about this...
Okay, so the bailout bill got killed. Some Republicans decided to try and blame Nancy Pelosi for giving such a "partisan" speech, causing them to cry in the corner. BTW, here's the speech if you want to see what all was partisan (please let me know, I don't see it).
On top of this, McCain slimes his way around taking credit for getting this bill done, just before it gets completely killed. Chris Matthews hangs him out to dry.
Couldn't Let This Pass: Kick The Tires vs. Duct Tape
I've been keeping a safe distance from politics, enjoying the peace that ignorance offers, but every now and then something comes up that makes me shake my head. Here's what's getting me right now.
For the past 6 years or 7 years, MoxieGrrrl has in one form or another been poking at the ridiculousness of politics. There have been highs and lows, times when I have been on a tear and good and pissed off about something. Months when I have posted up to 6 or 7 times a day.
But I am tired now. I am older. And I am not much wiser. It's all the same shit day after day. Fox News is the worst thing in creation. Our government wants to keep us dumb and fat so they can keep us in line. There were shenanigans on 9/11. Or not. There are too many ignorant idiots voting the wrong people into office. Or not.
I got an email from some anonymous reader this morning, accusing me of censoring my website from opposing views because I have moderation turned on, and for the last fucking time I will state AGAIN that the reason I do is so that a.) porn hucksters don't spam my comments trying to get free advertising and b.) those fools who write 75 pages worth of rambling rants that don't have anything to do with the topic at hand don't waste my comment space or YOUR time trying to scroll through all that shit looking for a real comment. I'm sorry if I was taking away your chances of getting off at FreeSexx69(dot)whatever or reading about how the apocalypse will bring the four horsemen to your doorstep in greater detail than War and Peace. The fact is that there aren't so many opposing view comments simply because I don't update this site like I used to and no longer draw as many readers.
MoxieGrrrl will likely always be here. And to my dear, dear readers, I consider many of you as close a friend as one can get through this here intarwebs. So I'll be here, hanging back in the shadows, waiting for something to get under my skin so I can pop it up here, but it won't be like it was. Mox is getting too old for this shit.
EDIT/UPDATE: Let me add that I reserve the right to change my mind at any time for any reason. At any time, something might just boil my blood and I run straight to my laptop and fire off something particularly nasty and evil. This has happened before, but I did want to put something up so people know where my head is at, so if things end up tapering off, it's not a huge shock.
Also wanted to add that along with the folks who've left such nice comments here, I received a few labeled "not for publication" that I kept private. They were very touching notes, and I wanted to say thank you for sending them. They do mean a great deal to me, and it never ceases to amaze me - just when I think the world is made up of mostly assholes who sit at the computer monitors and anonymously spread negativity because of whatever bug crawled up their ass, fantastically warm, caring, sweet people pop out and let me know they are there too. You guys rock my world.
John McCain has an unusual endorsement — from the Vietnamese jailer who says he held him captive for about five years as a POW and now considers him a friend.
"If I were an American voter, I would vote for Mr. John McCain," Tran Trong Duyet said Friday, sitting in his living room in the northern city of Haiphong, surrounded by black-and-white photos of a much younger version of himself and former Vietnam War prisoners.
At the same time, he denies prisoners of war were tortured. Despite detailed POW accounts and physical wounds, Duyet claims the presumed Republican presidential nominee made up beatings and solitary confinement in an attempt to win votes...
The latest "first" for Barack Obama comes off the Milan runway.
Calling the U.S. presidential hopeful "the man of the moment," Donatella Versace dedicated her Spring-Summer 2009 collection presented Saturday evening to Obama, creating a style she said was designed for "a relaxed man who doesn't need to flex muscles to show he has power."
Chatting with reporters in the cool of the garden of her private palazzo in downtown Milan at an after-show dinner party, the designer also had some fashion tips for the campaign trail. "I would get rid of the tie and jazz up the shirt," she said...
Reminds me of a couple lines from "Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta".
The new cases, and the number of deaths among children, have risen after "special weaponry" was used in the two massive bombing campaigns in Fallujah in 2004.
After denying it at first, the Pentagon admitted in November 2005 that white phosphorous, a restricted incendiary weapon, was used a year earlier in Fallujah.
In addition, depleted uranium (DU) munitions, which contain low-level radioactive waste, were used heavily in Fallujah. The Pentagon admits to having used 1,200 tonnes of DU in Iraq thus far.
Many doctors believe DU to be the cause of a severe increase in the incidence of cancer in Iraq, as well as among U.S. veterans who served in the 1991 Gulf War and through the current occupation.
"We saw all the colours of the rainbow coming out of the exploding American shells and missiles," Ali Sarhan, a 50-year-old teacher who lived through the two U.S. sieges of 2004 told IPS. "I saw bodies that turned into bones and coal right after they were exposed to bombs that we learned later to be phosphorus.
"The most worrying is that many of our women have suffered loss of their babies, and some had babies born with deformations."
"I had two children who had brain damage from birth," 28-year-old Hayfa' Shukur told IPS. "My husband has been detained by the Americans since November 2004 and so I had to take the children around by myself to hospitals and private clinics. They died. I spent all our savings and borrowed a considerable amount of money." ...
Is it just me or does John McCain look like 10 years older than he did even like 2 years ago? I swear I am not trying to pick on his age. I mean it seriously looks like he's become more gaunt, lost more hair and looks hella tired.
In the "Roll My Eyes At Anyone Who Watches FOX News" catagory - They actually used the term "terrorist fist jab" in connection with the Obamas' bumping fists during his victory speech last week. At least the guest put it into perspective. How Blondie could actually say it with a straight face is beyond me.
Clinton suspends campaign, endorses Obama. It was the most gracious, warm, exciting, and personable I have seen her in many months (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4), and I have no doubt that the Democrats will take back the White House this fall. Thank you, Hillary, and GO OBAMA!
New article on Salon - How Karl Rove spun Katrina. It is an excerpt from a new book called Machiavelli's Shadow: The Rise and Fall of Karl Rove. It made me sick to my stomach. Not only because I recalled those days after Katrina hit and the vile, disgusting way I saw it play out politically (from the view of an ordinary citizen many miles away from New Orleans), but because this proves that my gut reactions were correct and more vile and disgusting than I could wrap my head around.
A snippet from that article:
"So George [Stephanopoulos] and I went up in the helicopter and for three hours his jaw was dropping. Then I said, 'George, before we finish I have to show you one positive thing because I can't send you back to Washington to produce a story that shows nothing but devastation and disaster.' So I told the pilot to tack right so I can show George the 17th Street Canal and the work that was going on there. I swear as my name is Mary Landrieu I thought that what I saw with the president was still there -- people working, trucks, sandbags, everything. Then I looked down and saw one little crane. It was like someone took a knife and stabbed me through my heart. I lost it." There, in the cabin of the helicopter, as they flew above the breached canal below them, Landrieu sat devastated.
"I could not believe that the president of the United States, staged by Karl Rove himself, had come down to the city of New Orleans and basically put up a stage prop. It was like you had gone to a studio in California and filmed a movie. They put the props up and the minute we were gone they took them down. All the dump trucks were gone. All the Coast Guard people were gone. It was an empty spot with one little crane. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen in my life. At that moment I knew what was going on and I've been a changed woman ever since. It truly changed my life."
I just LOVE John McCain, he's like totally the best dude EVER! Wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, has no problem staying in Iraq for 100 years and he is SO INTERESTED in what we're all doing that he'd secretly spy on us to find out!
