2009 Update
As you know, I decided to take a break from writing MoxieGrrrl. Many things have occurred during that time, both personally and politically.
Three days ago Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States. My entire family celebrated by ditching work and school, and sitting in front of the TV to watch the day unfold (we dearly would have loved to have joined the crowds in Washington DC, but made the decision to stay at home).
It was a day of laughter, tears of joy, exuberance. I have never felt more glad and proud to be an American citizen as I did on January 20th.
Though I am still so very angry about the 8 years that were wasted on George W. Bush, I am more hopeful that President Obama will work to do the very best he can for the country. I understand, and hope that others do as well, that individual citizens won't always agree with his opinions or decisions. That is ok. All I ever wanted was a president that truly gave a damn about this country and her citizens, and would work in her best interests. I believe that Obama will be that president.
I no longer have the will or energy to pick at small people like Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, or Rush Limbaugh, who actually stated his desire for Obama to fail. In that moment, I realized just how insignificant Limbaugh really is. In all the years I opposed Bush, I never once WANTED him to fail. I never once desired for the entire country to suffer. To quote River Tam from Firefly, "A sad little king on a sad little hill."
I'll be checking in on occassion, perhaps discussing more joyous news rather than pointing out yet another atrocity. Be well, everyone, and be happy!

Yes Mox, we finally have a President. Since he is human, he will make mistakes and no person's idea of the Right Answer will ever be identical to another's.
I do believe that he is smart, knows something of the world of "normal people", has a respect for the U S Constitution, and the law of the land.
What he has done in the last three days is parsecs beyond the Bush junta.
Let us all help Obama "keep it between the ditches" as he progresses down the road of governance.
P.S. - good to hear your opinions again, Mox.
You go, Grrrl! Smart, politically savvy, dedicated, and a fan of "Firefly." Where were you when I was single? ;)
I hope you get back to work soon. Obama won the election, but now he needs all our help to win the fight for America. The conservatives are continuing to lie to the American people to try to stop him. Here's a letter I wrote to my senators this morning:
Dear Sen. Wyden and Sen. Merkley:
I am requesting that you submit a bill, defining the crime of treason to include an unequivocal and intentional lie told by a sitting U.S. Senator or Congressman, President, Vice President, or cabinet member, in a public forum generally broadcast to the American people, if that lie is told with the intent to make American citizens rely on the deception and make decisions about their support for political policies different than the decisions they would make if they knew the truth.
I am making this request because I heard Sen. Judd Gregg interviewed on NPR’s radio program, “All Things Considered.” Sen. Gregg was asked about President Obama’s budget, which includes tax increases for the richest Americans. Sen. Gregg said that a tax increase on those making $250,000 per year hurts entrepreneurs, owners of sole-proprietorships and S-corporations, preventing them from creating jobs. Sen. Gregg is surely aware of something in our tax code called a "business expense deduction." I am a lawyer in a small firm in a small town. I represent owners of small businesses and am one myself. I can tell you we claim everything in our lives that is remotely connected to our business as an expense. If we can justify it we claim our cell phones, our cars, part of our homes if we have home offices. If we go to the grocery store, and happen to stop by Staples for some office supplies, we write off the trip. All these things in our lives we get completely TAX FREE. And if we have a good year, in November and December we look around for new office equipment or other things to buy, or perhaps more people to hire, that will help our business in the long term, and also decrease the net on our personal return and therefore the taxes we have to pay.
These days, I don't know any small business owners in my neck of the woods who are reporting a quarter million dollars every year on their personal returns, after expensing everything they can think of that remotely connects to their businesses. If there is any guy like that out there, he's doing well enough he can afford to pay more tax and help the rest of us who are working hard but not making much money. And perhaps this tax increase will encourage him to hire more people and expand his business, and therefore stimulate the economy, rather than just pocket his profits.
I'm not saying just that I disagree with Sen. Craig, but rather I am accusing him of deliberately deceiving us. He told a clear, unequivocal lie on national radio, with the intent that Americans would be deceived and would rely on his misrepresentation to oppose President Obama's tax policy. In short, he met all the legal requirements for commission of the crime of fraud. Personally, I think he should be impeached. Lies like this have been allowed for too long. Washington needs to become accountable. We need to know that our leaders will not lie to us, and that if they do, they will be subject to the penalties provided in the Constitution for those who betray their country. At a minimum, please share this letter with Sen. Gregg and express your disapproval of his behavior, and share it with your other 98 Senate colleagues.
Thank you for all your hard work!!!
Alder, do any of you liberals pay taxes?
MoxieGrrrl, I'm afraid of what you'll do with all that free time you'll get from not blogging.
After I shuttered my site I finally had time to police my neighborhood. I've run out plenty of undesirables this year. They just stop paying their mortgage and leave without saying a word. I can't believe how effective my campaign has been.
Kirk, it's nice to see that your delusions are as addled as ever.
Gaia
Celebrate all you want. Anyone with more than 5 brain cells to rub together and who has been paying attention can at this point say without a doubt that Barack Obama is nothing but a puppet of the neo-con establishment, a new face for window dressing on the same Cheneyite policies.
The way it works is that the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the Bilderberg Group sponsor both (increasingly similar) political parties' candidates so that whichever one wins, the establishment wins instead of the people. Of course on an obvious left gatekeeper blog like this one we can never expect to hear something as truthful as that. Just keep our complaints confined in the nice neat little box your handlers tell you to keep us confined in, no mention of 9/11 being a painfully obvious inside job, no mention that the "war on terror" is nothing but a series of wars for control of as much of the world's remaining oil & natural gas resources as possible. This blog is like a low budget "Democracy Now". Shameful. So how much is the C.I.A. paying you nowadays Moxie Grrrrrrrrrl?
Oh dude you should SEE the wads of cash they rolled up with last week!
*yawn*
What I like best about Obama is I can look at the president and not see George W. Bush.
I've been doing more living and less blog writing myself since summer. I've made some unbelievable discoveries.
I started writing about this stuff, but found one place afer another to get stuck. The latest question I have is, is it poor form to write an 800,000-word blog post?
Hi I used to come here under another name I just decided to see what was up your still retired sigh.
Anyway I always liked your attitude I do hope you come back or maybe write part time for another blog.
You can't teach heart in a writing class, you can't teach people to care.
You got it use it.:)
I found your blog quite by accident and was disappointed to see what has been written here - by a Military wife - a Military that I have great respect for....it's just diappointing...
I am curious how Obama is working out for you - since you seemed to be so very intrigued and hopeful with his election?
I can tell you - he isn't WORKING for me at all. And funny comment from someone earlier who doesn't see Bush when they look at Obama - I do - I see another 4 years of Bush - same economic policy, same war policy - and WORSE foreign policy.
I'm with Rush - I hope Obama fails. Obama is NOT the USA, therefore I am not saying I want the country to fail, but YES - HELL YES I want Obama's policies to fail, because I love my country and I want it back. Being Military, I can't possibly believe you would seriously WANT for this country what Obama WANTS for this country.
Like I said - I was just very disappointed when I found this blog.
