In All Seriousness
Yesterday I received one of those emails meant to rally people behind one candidate by trying to put another in a bad light - sans links, hard facts, etc. One of those "I don't know if it's true but I thought it was important enough to pass along..."
I despise those emails. I really do. I get very angry at the idiots who just hit the forward button and mail that shit to all their friends and family without having any idea whether it's true or just someone's VERSION of the truth. And in this day and age, in this political climate, I no longer want to settle for someone else's version of the truth. I want the REAL truth. I want honest candidates, who are willing to step up and be TRUTHFUL.
So I searched through the email looking for the original sender, and spent a little time formulating a response. Not so much to argue whether the content was 100% accurate or not, but the fact that he didn't bother to FIND OUT whether it was or not. It supported his candidate, and that was all he needed. He wrote back, giving some lame excuse that he didn't find anything online to refute the information and that he introduced the email by saying he couldn't verify its validity to give himself an "out.". I informed him that that was a dismal excuse, since I could write an email proclaiming the Pope's love of singing showtunes while dancing in the buff and (presumably) since there was nothing online to refute that.... wink wink.
I want to ask a question, and I am not being snippy or snarky, nor am I fishing for people to get nasty. I would like to hear serious, well thought out responses.
Please tell me why you support Hillary Clinton.
I am quite at a loss to understand her current level of support, even if it is slipping. After the exaggerated stories (and Bill's insistence on furthering them), the incredible amount of money she's accepted from special interest groups, her shifting views on NAFTA, her penchant for attacking the potential candidate in her own party rather than focusing on the opposition... I just do not understand and would like to understand it more. So someone please tell me.

Moxiegrrrl,
I love your site. Good writing. If you haven't read Molly Ivins response to Hillary Clinton, it's worth a read. I posted it to my blog: Basket of Puppies

FYI: I'm the guy that does republicanoffenders.com
It boggles the mind how goddamn inept and spastic her campaign has become. It's just breathtaking really -- the bald faced me-tooism, the appeal to fear, the weird contortions she goes through to claim some kind of connection to every possible constituency.
Jesus! How bloody disconnected from the current media reality to be that audacious in reinvention? It's like Clinton's media strategy is based on newsreels.
We're the internet, fool! We're listening!
Thanks for stopping by guys!
I guess I scared off all the Clinton supporters. Oh well.
I was an Edwards supporter first — I still believe he would have been a superior selection both in terms of electability and policy compared to the other two candidates.
I ultimately voted for Clinton instead of Obama because I saw her as being a stronger candidate in the general election than Obama would be. I still question whether the U.S. is capable of embracing a somewhat nerdy-looking black intellectual named "Hussein Obama" as its national leader. A friend of mine said that the Democrats must win Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida to win the election, and he didn't believe Obama could win any of them.
In terms of policy, I don't see really all that much difference between the two candidates. Their Senate voting records are extremely close. I know many people bring up Clinton's AUMF vote, but I question how much more aggressively Obama will withdraw from Iraq than Clinton would, given how dependent the West is on access to oil from that region.
At any rate, Clinton's lie about coming under sniper fire in Bosnia was the first thing that made me question my belief that she was at heart a good, decent progressive doing her best to campaign in what is a decidedly rightwing media environment. I expect politicians to be capable of "spin" and "putting their best foot forward". That comes with the job. But it's a whole different thing to just 'make shit up'.
Whichever candidate gets nominated, I will certainly vote for and support them in the general. If the U.S. is subjected to another four years of rule by the War Crimes and Constitutional Subversion Party, we are well and truly fucked.
