A More Perfect Union Speech

It's long, but amazing.

I was going to cross party lines and vote for Obama, but not now.
He sat in church listening to hate for country, hate for the white race.
(He allowed his children to hear this at his church, being taught racism, apples don't fall far from the tree)
Unacceptable!
I wrote off my last living family member because he is a racist asshole.
I write off Obama too!
Oh well, I'll have to vote for asswipe McCain.

Obama spoke to the heart of our problems - to keep open relationships even with those we disagree with. It's what he has said from the beginning, that he wants to keep dialogs going.

He gave his opinion of the comments his pastor made, but then opened up the discussion of race issues in a way no one in a similar position has in a really long time.

I agree with him that you CAN NOT close doors on issues or people and think they'll go away. So many times, what we don't know about is what we then shy away from and later start to become scared of, too.

As to Iggy's comment on the Obama children hearing racist comments - that's when discussion with your children, as good parents, is most worthwhile. That's a "real world" issue that polite society doesn't want to address.

I'm reminded, and maybe one of you will know more detail on this to give a link, of assumptions the government has made about foreign countries positions because of lack of open discussions, taking actions only to find out later the mistakes.

Iggy, I'm surprised you can reach the keyboard from that pedestal of yours.

Obama was trying to point out (unsuccessfully I guess) that racism is everywhere and can't be ignored anymore.

He was also trying to explain that there are all sorts of people, both good and bad who have at least some racist feelings. They shouldn't be written off for that. They should be engaged in dialogue.

If you write off everyone who holds racist attitudes, you'll be very lonely.

Falwell, Robertson, et al, say just as hateful things, yet the media shrugs when they support Republican candidates.

a lot of what Wright said was crazy and/or stupid, but the double-standard occurring here is STAGGERING. the argument sub-text(not even sub sometimes) is that, simply, blacks are not allowed to express this kind of hateful language or anger. its just not acceptable.

that speech Obama gave on monday was brilliant, and if somehow he doesn't get the nom, he's shown he won't put his beliefs through the meat-grinder to win. that's who i want as a leader.
