Republicans Block Stimulus Bill

Dear unemployed, elderly and disabled vets,

Fuck you.

Love,
Mr. Bush and the majority of Senate Republicans.

Senate Republicans blocked a move by Democrats on Wednesday to add more than $40 billion in checks for the elderly, disabled veterans and the unemployed to a bill to stimulate the economy.

The 58-41 vote fell just short of the 60 required to break a GOP filibuster and bring the Senate version of the stimulus bill closer to a final vote. The Senate measure was backed by Democrats and a handful of Republicans but was strongly opposed by GOP leaders and President Bush, who objected to the costly add-ons...

Republican leaders objected to add-ons such as a $14.5 billion unemployment extension for those whose benefits have run out, $1 billion in heating aid for the poor and tax breaks for renewable energy producers and coal companies...

Isn't this nice? And, just for good measure, the Republican pukes also want a measure added to the stimulus plan that blocks illegal immigrants from getting any rebates. Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes and they don't file. How are they supposed to get any money from Uncle Sam if they don't file for taxes? If that isn't shameless demagoguery, then I don't know what is.

re: this bill and the storms...

"Loss of life, loss of property — prayers can help and so can the government," Bush said. "I do want the people in those states to know the American people are standing with them."
*sotto vox*
cause i'm sure-the-hell-not, and prayers don't cost money!!!

bush will do the same fly-over/photo op that he did after 'katrina' and call it a good day.
the only reason i can think that he isn't gone already, is that he's be even worse as a martyr!
and those behind him!!!

hearts and outrage to/for you...
maybe one day in hell...

They are not looking to stimulate the economy they never have been. Part of Roves original strategy to create a permanent Republican majority is staked in creating a permanent under class of cheap labor. Every thing that they have done to fix the economy has actually been aimed at divesting in the middle class including lowering interest rates to devalue your savings and retirement. They want the underemployed to raid their piggy banks and dump all that money into their pockets.

Heaven forbid that any of this dough goes to anyone who really needs it.
Who's responsible now for holding up enactment of this plan? I thought Bushy said this stimulus needed speedy approval and never mind the details.
Oh well, as the Sausage said, the point of this isn't to help anybody; AND this sort of currency handout won't have any effect whatsoever on the manufactured "crisis".
