News As Seen From Florida

Been trying to keep up with the news, but also trying to keep in mind that my family hasn't been on vacation together in 5 years. In fact, the last time we were all together, we came to Epcot and did their Leave a Legacy thing where you buy a little one-inch square where they will put a message or an image on a metal plate, which is then mounted on these odd obelisk things just in front of the big Epcot ball. Well, it's there in all it's glory, and my 6 1/2 year old is now immortalized as a 1 1/2 year old. You may be able to read a little of the square we purchased next to it as well, it had our names, and said she was the Cutest Baby Ever (metal engravings do not do her justice), 04/12/2002, almost 5 years ago exactly.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

The White House is looking for a "War Czar", but no one's interested in taking the job so far.

Help Wanted: White House seeks high-profile manager of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to coordinate competing agencies and make sure President George W. Bush's unpopular strategy is implemented.

In a tradition of presidential trouble-shooting, the White House is considering creating a "war czar" post in the National Security Council and has put out feelers to some retired generals to see if they would be interested.

But no takers so far. The Washington Post said at least three retired four-star generals approached by the White House in recent weeks had turned down the position.

'Duck for President' Tells Familiar Tale

Children were invited to the White House Monday for the Easter Egg Roll. On the agenda: Laura Bush reading a children's book called Duck for President. The duck takes over the farm, then runs for governor, then runs for the White House. He wins after a recount. But he gives it all up to go back to the farm, concluding: "Running a country is no fun at all."
All together now: LAME. DUCK.

I know this idea is a bit farfetched, but ...

Given that Alberto Gonzales has been a part of George Bush's inner circle from his days as Governor of Texas until now, I wonder if Bush would appoint Gonzo as "war czar" as a way to keep him on the team if he loses his job as Attorney General.

Just thinking out loud.

I'm very surprised General Boykin hasn't volunteered. One would think this would be right up his alley.

However, even if he did, I'm afraid I'd still opt for J.C. Christian.
