HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

My husband got a Happy Independence Day from a bloke across the pond and wondered if it was appropriate. I thought it was entirely appropriate, especially if it was followed up with, "Nyah, nyah, ny-nyah, nyah! SUCKERS!"

This caught my eye over at C&L, thought I'd share:

The president’s interest in capturing Osama bin Laden has evolved over time. After the al Qaeda leader orchestrated the attacks of 9/11, Bush pledged to get bin Laden "dead or alive." Six months later, after bin Laden proved to be elusive, the president said, "I truly am not that concerned about him."

So it should come as no surprise that the CIA unit dedicated to getting bin Laden is no more.

The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The official response is that there are still plenty of officials responsible to tracking bin Laden and that the terrorist remains a "high priority." But I’m curious, if President Kerry had allowed the CIA to disband the intelligence unit tasked with hunting bin Laden, would conservatives just shrug their shoulders?

It never ceases to stun the hell out of me that there are STILL staunch Bush-supporters after this bullshit. WORST. PRESIDENT. EVER.

Oh, and who knows if this is anywhere near the truth, but it's sure fun to read: OBL A dead nemesis perpetuated by the US government

In Bush's Independence Day speech recently, he said

"I will make you this promise, I'm not going to allow the sacrifice of 2,527 troops who have died in Iraq to be in vain." ... "At this moment of vulnerability for the enemy, we will continue to strike their network. We will disrupt their operations, and we will bring their leaders to justice."

He seems to have forgotten to add "In fact, I'm happy to report we've made a great start! The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants."

Let's see: Plame outed, her network blown and possibly killed off; 10 mil on Osama's head, CIA stops looking; Torture and rape, and civilian killing rampant among our troops; Democracy exported, along with The Bill of Rights.

Seems more like The War ~For~ Terror, than "On Terror".
