Pass The Smelling Salts!!! Bush Lied Again!!!

I know, such a shocker, right? I mention this merely to add more fodder to the truth gun you keep shooting at your Ostrich-like Bush-supportin' brother-in-law/neighbor/spouse/SO.

Embedded TIME Reporter: Bush Lied In Speech Yesterday About Iraqi Security Forces

Yesterday, President Bush claimed that Iraqi security forces “primarily led” the assault on the city of Tal Afar. Bush highlighted it as an “especially clear” sign of the progress Iraq security forces were making in Iraq.

"The progress of the Iraqi forces is especially clear when the recent anti-terrorist operations in Tal Afar are compared with last year’s assault in Fallujah. In Fallujah, the assault was led by nine coalition battalions made up primarily of United States Marines and Army — with six Iraqi battalions supporting them…This year in Tal Afar, it was a very different story. The assault was primarily led by Iraqi security forces — 11 Iraqi battalions, backed by five coalition battalions providing support."

TIME Magazine reporter Michael Ware, who is embedded with the U.S. troops in Iraq who participated in the Tal Afar battle, appeared on Anderson Cooper yesterday. He said Bush’s description was completely untrue:

"I was in that battle from the very beginning to the very end. I was with Iraqi units right there on the front line as they were battling with al Qaeda. They were not leading. They were being led by the U.S. green beret special forces with them."

Think Progress also have the video for your viewing pleasure.

PS: Get your chuckles now!!! Fox changed their "holiday" ornament to "Christmas" ornament after being made to look like absolute fools by Keith Olbermann (and many libblogs).

I hope Kirkonymous starts posting on this topic now too since the Chemical Weapons thread has slipped into the archives. I just can't wait to see what kind of justification "they'll" have for this one. Kirk ol' pal - you have an opinion about this latest lie? Inquiring minds wanna know

So Bush lied about Iraq, as to who lead the men into battle?

The campaign must have been a success!

Yikes! I never noticed this before but John Warner is beginning to look and act like our former Senator, Zell Miller -- and this is not a good thing.

I wish Warner's comment went a little longer on the video. I couldn't believe that he was arguing that the fact they (the Iraqis) didn't drop their weapons and run was just as good as leading the battle.

I'm beginning to believe that top Republican leaders (?) must inject their faces with novacaine before spouting this bilge.

Why aren't more repugs pissed about the poor leadership in their whitehouse? Helen Thomas askes a very salient question in today's press briefing that is also a good question to post here: "Who's minding the store?"

I for one DO NOT believe for a moment that Bush lied. He is a Christian man, with our best interests in mind. Afterall, he is the president and to criticize him is harming our troops. It's also unpatriotic.

hey Crallspace:

Bush is a "Christian man"?? I've read the entire Bible from cover to cover and am working on reading all of it a second time around, and I can tell you that for a "Christian" Bush certainly doesn't pay any attention to the teachings of Christ.

Jesus Christ does not approve of the death penalty. Remember how He saved Mary Magdalene from being stoned to death? Remember how He said "Turn the other cheek"?

Jesus also wouldn't sanction a war of aggression, such as the illegal invasion of a country [Iraq] that was doing nothing to provoke America. This goes without saying.

Jesus always taught people to help the poorest among us and would not approve of seemingly endless tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of the population while steadily shifting the tax burden onto the middle class and working poor. Remember the story of the rich man who heard one of Jesus' sermons and asked Him how he could help Jesus in His cause? Jesus told him to first give away all his possessions to the poor, then come back and see Him, to which the rich man responded by slinking away never to cross paths with Jesus again. Remember that?

Jesus wouldn't lie under any circumstances, wheras nearly everything that comes out of Bush's mouth is a lie. If Bush says the sun is shining one would be a fool to not go and look out the window for themself. You can tell when Bush is lying thusly: when his lips are moving.

No, Bush is certainly no Christian. He and the rest of the right-wing Bible thumpers are pseudo-Christians and from their actions it appears few if any of them have even read any of the Bible. They wear their phony piousness on their sleeves so as to appeal to their right-wing base who are so mindless as to think these bourgeois shitbags are what they so unconvincingly claim to be. I can pretend I'm a wooly mammoth but that doesn't make me one.

hey Seal:

That article on Common Dreams called "Fascism then, fascism now" was right on. Thanks for the link. It's the same things I've been saying for years and it's always good to know others can notice it as well. Just like Mussolini said, another word for fascism is "corporatism". Politicians like Bush and Cheney and Reagan before them are essentially puppets of big business interests (the grande bourgeoisie) and seek the most corporate-friendly business enviornment possible which always is at the expense of the well-being of the working class. That's the essence of it, under the veneer of flag waving and nationalistic chest-beating.

hey Crallspace:

My apologies for the "friendly fire".

Yes, people - if they have a blog they link to, check it out first to see if they're kidding or not. :)

PS: As for the Backwards Bush counter, I've tried in the past and again just now to add it to the sidebar, but it fucks things up, so I will just have to live vicariously through others who can have it ;)

He also mentioned some crap about 120 battallions of Iraqis doing the fighting however....

Now If I take the way back machine to Sept 29th....I seem to remember an Armed Forces Testimony.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: General Abizaid, there was a report sent over, I think last June, that three of the hundred Iraqi battalions were fully trained and equipped, capable of operating independently. What is that number now?

GEN. JOHN ABIZAID: The number now is, if you're talking about level-one trained --

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: Yeah.

GEN. JOHN ABIZAID: It's one.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: At one battalion?

GEN. JOHN ABIZAID: Right.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: The previous report was you had three battalions. Now we're down to one battalion.

That's right. After over two and a half years of this mess, there is a grand total of ONE single Iraqi battalion that can operate without U.S. troops holding their hands. So at this rate, in five more years from now they might have a brigade of Iraqi troops ready to operate independently, and in fifteen years after that perhaps a single division. That's if they don't all defect to the Rebels as soon as they're trained...

An article in the Washington Post yesterday confirmed the Times article's statement, saying every platoon of twenty Iraqi soldiers was being led by a U.S. Army Special Forces [green beret] officer. This statement tells us a couple of interesting things. One, Iraqi rifle platoons are way understrength considering by U.S. Army tables of organization a platoon of foot infantry [as opposed to mechanized infantry that travel in armored personnel carriers or nowadays in Bradley infantry fighting vehicles] is consisting of 34 personnel. This would likely mean that the Iraqis are so unreliable as to make it necessary to have a U.S. Army officer keeping an eye on them and that 34 unreliable personnel would be too much of a task for each single U.S. officer, so they have to operate in reduced platoons of 20 men. Aside from that I can't think of a reason why they'd be organized in small 20-man platoons. This statement also tells us that the Iraqi forces have no officers capable of even leading platoons, which are the smallest units that are led by officers. If they can't even produce junior officers that can command platoons, how are they going to be able to get decent officers to command companies, battalions, brigades, etc.?

The fricken Libertarian party of America wants the troops to come home. Don't give me this crapo that its only the dems that want them to come home. The libertarians want them to come home too. Hell the whole world wants the Americans out of Iraq. We removed Saddam, probably a good thing, and we are still there. Is Bush, Rumsfeld, and the bunch playing a real time game of Risk? The war is over.

Ex-rep. Cunningham cried because he got caught. Clinton got caught, said yeah I'm a pimp, apologized and moved on. Taft still wants to lead Ohio only polling 6% approval rating. He doesn't govern by the polls. Bob, sit, NOBODY LIKES YOU GO AWAY!

Let me be as plain as possible. The democrats need to be the good time party. They need to tell America that they want them to feel good and have a good time.
