Yay Democracy!
While Bush went on and on about bringing democracy to Iraq - giving those poor people some happiness - this woman is still under house arrest. Nope, I didn't know about her either, but apparently she won a landslide democratic election, but the government didn't like that very much, so they stuck her in a house and removed her telephone and television. Eh, who cares about Myanmar. Not like there's oil there or anything.
In other news, random death and destruction in Iraq. By the "good guys." Video may be graphic, but I haven't watched it. Watch at your own risk.

The video is not graphic, certainly less so than any western or crime show on tv. You can't see any of the victims directly, just their cars being hit with bullets.
As referenced in the Sunday Telegraph article that video originated here...

It is "an on-line discussion forum called AEGIS IRAQ PSD TEAMS.
These are private contractors doing close security work in Iraq. These guys are apparently the last car in a convoy hell bent on not letting any vehicles close on their group. Their methods are not exactly kosher with many others that do this type of work.
I found the following in the site's discussion forum. There are other similar comments too.

guys, ref the video, are you surprised at this?? I mean you post this and other stuff on an unsecure site for everybody (media/terrorists etc) to see. Are you all fucking mad?? It's like the fusiliers getting their 'torture' photos developed at snappy snaps.....how daft can you get? All this plays into the hands of those that see us as mercenaries/ baby killers/ whatever. You wait for the fallout now. What the FUCK were you thinking putting it on here? I got sent it via other means, and believe me it's fast becoming the new 'Edinburgh Risk' video, ie everyone's seen it and it makes you all (and reflectively all of us in the AOR) look like cowboys. And it's a pretty bad clip lets face it (er, how many 'warning shots'??) I'm surprised the Guardian/Mirror and all the other media wankers haven't leapt on it (yet). Engage the brains guys cos EVERYONE can read these posts.... Incidentally, been doing PSD since summer '03 both high & low profile. No prizes for guessing which one I prefer...
I found that pretty enlightening.
Junta, humm.
How bout that poor aussy woman who got 20 ears for weed in Malaysia.
We can't help them all.
How about that woman, who Amnisty Internation convinced China to let go a few years back.
(She had an American Husband)
She was returned to the US, flipped us the bird and left for China again.
She was spying for China (Our Nuke programs and NASA)
There is so much spin on everything; it's hard to tell who the good guy's are.
hey Iggy Dude:
I think Moxie Grrrl's point was that the U.S. government seems to have entirely different "standards" of what egregious acts merit military action against a country that is both practically defenseless and very oil-rich than it does for the same or worse actions committed by countries that either can defend themselves and/or have no resources that are coveted. She is stripping away the false veneer of "idealism" and exposing our government's very cynical and cowardly foreign policy.
I'm a bit surprised that americans don't seem to have heard of Aung San Suu Kyi. She's a Nobel peace prize winner, acknowled by the rest of the world.
But Oscars are so much more important, aren't they...?
These guys are probably hired by us to snuff Iraqi's in an anti-terrorist by terrorism strategy solicited by a no-bid contract situation. No doubt the Veep is behind it.
"But Oscars are so much more important, aren't they...?"
True, enhanced body parts, fame and puppies, matter most. (besides the Un-reality shows and Most Deaparate Housewives.
It's Holyweird. (But, Yamashiro's is a good place for Sushi, a bit pricey though )
