Republicans Keeping The Little Guy Down

Ahh capitalism! Keep labor costs down so I can reap the rewards of a higher profit margin. Fuck the middle class, they're on their way out anyway. - Overheard from nearly every Republican bastard.

Yellow Dog brings us this latest example of Republican love:

Just as they did earlier this year, Senate Republicans today shot down another attempt by Democrats to raise the federal minimum wage. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) once again sponsored the measure that would have raised the minimum allowable wage rate to $6.25 over an 18-month period. The minimum wage has been at $5.15 per hour since 1997.

Kennedy's amendment, which was attached to an appropriations bill, failed by a vote of 51-47, with all Democrats on the Senate floor voting for the increase and all but four Republicans voting against it.

Kennedy had tried to push through the bill (S.AMDT.2063) as a compromise to another wage hike that Republicans defeated earlier this year.

"This is a modification of our amendment which was to raise the minimum wage to $7.25," said Kennedy when arguing for his amendment on Tuesday. "It seemed to me that in an attempt to try to find some common ground with our friends on the other side, we would modify this amendment to reflect what had been the position of the Republican side the last time we had the debate on the increase in the minimum wage and that was $1.10."

Supply and demand if an “employer” only wants to pay minimum wage; it’s not the kind of company or person who would want to work for anyway.

It’s the unions that over inflated the economy that will do away with the middle class.
The lowest paid Delphi worker was making 27.00 per hour, 17 Holidays; 6 weeks vacation, paid health insurance.
Bottom line is companies cannot pay this and make a profit.

Think what will happen when they take a reduction lets say to $9.00 an hour.
These people paid inflated prices for their homes in an over inflated economy.
I bet most of them have 2 mortgages on their homes.
We have been living beyond our means compared to the rest of the world wages.

It’s not minimum wage; it’s the sweet trade deals that our Senate makes.
The two Biggest offenders of crimes against humanity is Mexico and China and yet the Senate considers them preferred traders.

Our Government have been boning us; hiding America’s “true Net worth of our Economy.
We are screwed.

Y'know, Moxie, this is one of the few things I'll agree with the 'Pubs on. Hiking the minimum wage only accomplishes 2 things: 1- inflation (forcing companies to raise their cost of business results in higher prices for the consumer); and 2- more people making minimum wage (and not in the "good" way . . . people making slightly above minimum wage now will most likley not get a raise in response to hiking the minimum wage--they will stay at the same rate, which means they'll go from making just ABOVE minimum wage to making minimum wage).

I always love the "it's the unions fault" argument. Why is it never the "white collar" worker that makes $27 an hour fault? You so called compassionate conservatives contempt for anyone that doesn't have a college education is bullshit. Most of you couldn't wipe your own ass without help. Fuck you very much.

Blue and White collor will suffer.
Allen Greenspan is vey worried about inflation, but he tight lipped on what this means about the future.
The Cost of Housing is 2 or 3 times what it is worth.
The Senate WANTS an inflated economy, it's how they get more tax money without rasing taxes. (get it)
We are in a real mess, we have to adjust values or sevices and goods.
Our Government needs the inflated prices to maintain their budget.
If we don't want a depression within a decade we have to find a way to fix it.
Finger pointing won't do any good, if we point any finger it should be at our Elected Officials.
hey thankyajayzus:
I did not go to college and it's hurts me. I am a computer geek in Computer Networks for over ten years.
They "expect" a BS. I Can't hate people for it.

May I suggest:

1. Rescind tax breaks for the rich. Then, with half the money recovered, increase breaks for the middle class.

2. Aggressively clamp down on corporations that avoid taxes by claiming their operations are off-shore.

3. Eliminate all tax shelters.

4. Eliminate farm subsidies for large, corporate agricultural enterprises.

5. Halve the funds allocated for secret military research.

6. Initiate a universal health plan. (Large corporations will love it - it would relieve them of the growingly onerous cost of their own..)

8. Set a dollar limit on Congressional pork. (Let the bastards fight each other tooth and claw over it.)

9. Put a break on the revolving door between Government and Private Industry.

10. Live up to the true spirit of Capitalism: Eliminate religious subsides of all stripes. (Irony intended.)

12. Eliminate the classification of SUVs as 'trucks', and tax them as cars.

And, I could go on...

Of course, all these depend on government to do the job - something those actively seeking a bathtub in which to drown it will find anathema.
