And People Got Snippy When WILSON Donated to Gore

Look who ELSE donated to Al Gore in 1988, and DIDN'T donate to Bush Sr...

Oh, and apparently Miers thinks Bush Jr. is the most brilliant man she's ever met. And she so qualified to be a Supreme Court judge, too!

What qualifies her is; she lead a large Law firm for 20 years.
She was President of the Texas Bar Association.
The President of the United States has confidence in her abilities.
He knows her; he has observed her first hand.
Most importantly, she is dedicated to her work, it is her endeavor.
Our Founding fathers were wise; take notice that most public service positions only require citizenship and a minimum age.
Even If a person was a high school dropout; if they can pass the bar exam they are qualified.
Let’s not lose site of Active Citizens participating in our Government.
Do we really want well to do stuffy liberals who Graduate Yale representing us?
I’ll go with common nonsense person who is a Geek at their endeavor.
Upholding Our Consistution.

Iggy - don't you think someone appointed to be SUPREME COURT JUDGE should actually have SOME experience being a judge at all? Shit, maybe every judge on the bench NOW has had no experience being a judge and I just don't know it...

Brash - Don't worry, I'm sure I will say something so stereotypically liberal that will annoy you to no end very soon.

Every thing this bunch of crooks have done is to further their own agenda at the expense of Freedom and Liberty. Nothing has been moderate in words or actions. Anybody who thinks these are Just people picked for the Court have their head up u know where.
The picks for the court are just another move to solidify the sick far rights control over the people.

Their only 2 aces left are the Court and another attack on us like 911.

35 Past Supreme Court Justices were not Judges before the appointment.
Justice Rehnquist was not a Judge prior to appointment.
Maybe we should not have sent Neil Armstong to the moon since he never walked on the moon before.

Just something I heard… She was on the board of some freakish religious group. I think that disqualifies her.

She must have lead an incredibly shelter life.

"The President of the United States has confidence in her abilities.

Just like Bush had confidence in, and had observed first hand, Brown before apointing him FEMA chief, right?

"maybe every judge on the bench NOW has had no experience being a judge and I just don't know it"

Moxie, I did some checking when Roberts was nominated, because I thought it rather strange that he would be nominated to the SCotUS with only 2 years of experience as a judge. Kennedy, Souter, Ginsburg & Breyer had the level of experience I expected (and believe should be required)--serving 12-14 years as justices at various levels before their appointment. Stevens & O'Connor had some experience, but not a huge amount (5 & 7 years, respectively). Scalia had 4 years, Thomas a mere 1. And Rehnquist was never a judge before being appointed to the SCotUS.

My personal opinion is that, considering the significance of the position, there SHOULD be a minimum # of years as a justice (IMO, 5 years minimum at the Federal Appeals or State SC level) before someone is eligible for the SCotUS. But, that's just my opinion. I find it rather amazing that someone can hold the position of SC Justice or even Chief Justice without having a single day's experience as a judge.

Fantastic opinion, Phil, and I would agree that having been a judge prior to being able to be nominated as a judge in the SCOTUS, but unfortunately our opinions are worth shit (especially with the moron in the oval office).

Which is why we need to take back the government form the hacks in power now, and be a little more active in our local politics (kind of like being a little more actives with children).

Great. They probably see all the right-wingers whining about how they didn't get their Scalia or Thomas, so they figure she's as good as we're gonna get.

What the hell happened to this country?

All that matters is; that she does the best job she can to uphold and defend the Constitution of The United States.
To Read the Black ink scribed by our founding fathers.
This is NOT rocket science, and was not meant to be.
Her personal views does not matter.
Congress is blowing smoke screens when they ask questions like abortion, and personal opinons.
Think Dick Cheney ask his heart doctor about his view or abortion or personal issues?

Cronyism rules now more than ever. Monkey boy is loading the SCOTUS with inexperienced cronies so when the shit really hits the fan, he and his band of criminals will be covered.
They should all be in jail for raping our childrens futures by sucking as much as they can out of our economy for short-term financial gains at the expense of sensible spending.
This country goes further into the shit with each day.
Wheres the outrage?

Alright, come on liberals. We're counting on you to get this piss-poor nominee withdrawn.

If Bush wants to nominate a staunchly conservative woman who's never been a judge, let me suggest someone.

At the risk of offending anyone, I just found out she got her law degree from Southern Methodist University.

Compare that to John Roberts who (I'm pretty sure) finished first in his class at Harvard. Even better, compare it to the two justices being replaced. Both members of the same law school class at Stanford, Renquiest finished first, and O Connor finished third.

This pick is just embarrassing in comparison.

Dog, Brash - Sorry to say, the uproar from the right only makes me chuckle. See, we've been tellin' ya for YEARS what an incompetant boob Bush is (in relation to doing what's best for this country), but ya never believed us. Nope, hadda stand by your man and all that shit.

And look where it got ya. It got a pathetic excuse for a SCOTUS nominee (even if this woman was a die-hard democrat, I'd still call it a pathetic nomination). That's the best and brightest in this country?

We're all so fucked it's not even goddamn funny anymore.

Hold that chuckle until you find out about her opinion on abortion. I don't think you'll be all too happy with her either.

I don't think Bush is incompetant, but I think that he's been too eager to mollify the left, and too timid at times. On the bright side, though, with Kerry as president we'd have two very bad(and possibly French) nominees for the SCOTUS instead of one good nominee and one questionable one. Thankfully, you leftists are better at complaining than you are at campaigning, so Kerry's preferences are moot.

Politics really is about the lesser of two evils.

Agreed, Iggy, that it's about having a level playing field for all candidates. But the whole point of trying to select the BEST candidate for the most important judicial position of the United States of America is that we choose the best person from all those equal candidates. And if that process is to be successful, you absolutely need to judge those candidates on their past experience in a similar function. How successful were they at doing what they're going to be doing in the SCOTUS? That's why we need to select people who stood out at their law schools, who had long and successful careers as judges, who have a demonstrated qualification and competence to fill the post. A President of, how shall I say it, troublingly little personal integrity has now placed his own lawyer on the seat. You gotta admit, it's a reason to worry when you know how the Bush administration would like to influence the judiciary with their religious ideas.

“Black, white, Man, woman, all equal.” Yet you think Bill Bennett was ok. Hmmm.. too bad he doesn’t have a radio show anymore.

"On the bright side, though, with Kerry as president we'd have two very bad(and possibly French)…." Gasp! you said French! What is the Rights fear of those different then them? From Black people to French folk… I guess not helping those in NO was really a double. Second, consider this.. O’Connor would not have stepped down if Kerry was President. Third, if Kerry were President, we might have a nominee that isn’t involved in lying or corruption. Perhaps, gasp… somebody that closely represents American politics at large. With this republican congress and hypothetical democratic president, the result might be somebody we all could be proud of.

Speaking of corrupt.. It looks like DeLay is on the ropes again. Remind me again of how honest he is. Oh… the spin.

Hey die hard reupblicans are bashing Bush now for picking Miers. I listened to a little of Rush today and they were just bashing Bush for the pick. Rush didn't know what to do he couldn't spin Miers. It was really funny to listen to Rush squirm under all of the negative calls he was getting about Miers. Maybe this will be a wake up call for republicans to think again why they put Bush back in office.

Has anyone noticed that, of the justices currently sitting on the Supreme Court, the less actual experience they have as a judge prior to being appointed, the further to the right they are?
