Serenity ROCKED
I just got back from seeing Serenity - oh my mind is just blown.
Here is my short review: It is not the show, it will make you laugh, and it will stun you.

Just got back from the showing. Yeah, definitely not the same as the series. I'm a bit conflicted. Really loved certain aspects of it, but disappointed with others. Overall, definitely worth the ride, and I am sooooooo happy to see the boat flying again. But I think I liked the series better.

I'm with ya... Wished I had seen River's ass-kicking self a little more in the series, but then Zoe would have been kicked to the side and she's no yellowbelly.
It is no spoiler to say that some things are lost and some things are won. I'm was disappointed that the magnitude of both of these weren't explored in the depth that I had come to expect in the series.
Star Trek, The Movie ( the first one ) sucked much worse. Wrath of Khan made the movie series, and launched the The Next Generation.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

george - it's hard to explore those aspects in one two-hour movie as opposed to over a dozen TV episodes, especially when you must reintroduce the characters to a whole new audience unfamiliar with the characters and their backgrounds at all. The good news is that there is talk of people going to the movie and ordering the DVDs after seeing it. That makes me happy :)
I have heard nothing but good reviews on this movie, I can't wait to see it!
Saw it today... it was great fun... I laughed, I cried... it really was nice to see the old boat flying again.
Two thumbs up, here, and worth the price of a non-matinee ticket.
Finally saw Serenity
It was worth the wait.
I miss the Chinese, it was there but I could have used more.
I'm going again and again and again. And when it comes out I'm buying the DVD.
River's the Slayer.
Opening shot seemed longer than "Touch of Evil."
Finally saw this, and thought it was incredible! I've never seen the series before. Is it something I should check out to get a little more backstory on the whole movie thing? (Such as, what was with all the Oriental handwriting...and WHY did they make River a killing machine in the first place?)
It was partly this review that made me go see it. Thanks for the good word! :)
Tracey - If you liked the movie, you will LOVE the series. You MUST get it. The movie actually explains about River more than the series does.
Oriental writing - the theory Joss Wheden used was that in the future, Chinese becomes the common language. Throughout the series, they get around cursing by cursing in Chinese, and they often emphasize something in Chinese. It's very cool.
YOU MUST, MUST, MUST get the series. Own it, I've watched it over and over, plus there's all these awesome extras :)
