Mr. Culottes Goes To Washington
Sans-Culottes graciously forwarded photos he took at the DC march from yesterday, and here is a sampling. He says he's sure there were about 250,000 people, but he wouldn't be surprised if there were 400,000. He was recruited to be a pall bearer and spent much of the day doing that, but got a lot of great shots...

So what did this accomplish?
The President is out of town and D.C. power bases are still in recess.
At best this represented .025 of 1% of the population. In addition, it included other parties such as the Communist Party.
This was a freak show; it did not help anyone.
Check out their site. Democrats are closer aligned with their ideals that you may think..
They are for Big Government, everyone equal, democracy rule.
Much to misinformation, what most are taught in our Government funded schools; we are NOT a democracy. We “were” a republic.
Our Governments function was not created to be ruled by a two party mob rules socialist system.
It was based on individualism.
Even in you crowds; You are only 1 of #
All the same chatter.
Collectivism is like the Borg.

Get a therapist, dude.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
God DAMN them socialist founding fathers!! Shhee-it!
"We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
Yes, equal is equal as humans.
iggy dude asks what it acheived - well yet again your President was AWOL ensuring all those rich white folks in Texas didn't suffer the way those black people did in New Orleans.
But more important - the world is watching the supposed greatest nation in the world tear itself apart due to averice and ideology when it should be healing the world through common sense (not a lot of that in Washington these days!).
Yes, commom sense.
Common sense is not wasting money and resources to rant in an empty town.
DC is a ghost town this time of year.
Good thing you guys are not in the Miltary
I had to take notice to most of the props.
Odds are.. The plastic Bush costume and such is made by slave labor in China.
Until 911 most American Flags were made in China.
There is bigger fish to fry.
Why our borders still open, why our major trade is with the two of worst human rights countries in the World? (China, Mexico)
Democrat, Republican, the same beast!
If Iraq is like Vietnam, how come the rallies keep getting smaller?

Heir to the Throne
While most of the media coverage, or lack thereof, has focused on the DC police chief's statement that there was at least the 100,000 expected, C-Span said it was 500,000.
http://truthout.org/campcaseydc.shtml
The C-Span figures are usually what holds for these events.
Having been to dozens that were both larger and smaller, I have to agree with C-span's estimate, or darn near to it. Even at 8:30 pm there were so many people just watching the concerts that I couldn't get close enough to take a picture. There were at least 75,000 people jammed onto the lawn in front of the stage, and that wasn't even where most of the people were at the time.
Part of what made it hard to get an estimate was the fact that there was two organizations sponsoring the event, United For Peace and ANSWER both with their own areas and iteneraries. Plus there were a whole bunch of other groups piggybacking on the event with tents, displays, and activities spread all over the mall. Usually there is a unified coordination of events instead of what happened yesterday.
Anyone who downplays the # of attendees either wasn't there or had their head clean up their ass so they couldn't tell.
Sans - don't even bother trying to say anything... they said 100K turned out for the NY protest last year - the one I WENT to, and I KNOW there was WAY more than 100K.
They just like to try and downplay it so it looks like fewer people showed up. Who knows when photos were taken? Maybe it was before things got started going, or as things were winding down.
The ostriches are jsut trying to make themselves feel better.
Oh shit, C&L has the link to the funniest thing I've seen in a long while. I had to do it a couple of times before I got the "use your mouse" part. It's funny enough just to let it go, but if you click your mouse and hold the button down and move (fast circles or back and forth...) ROFLMAO!!!

Schaudenfraude!!!!
This is typical right-wing spin, Moxie: "The march only attracted 199,999 marchers instead of the expected 200,000." They're grasping to make themselves feel better.
Peace to all. Sept. 24th was my 5th Anti American-Iraq War demonstration since right before the ground advance began in March 2003. It was by far the largest. At least 200,000 people showed up and marched. I need to get the pics developed and then I will post on my blog along with my view of the day in a couple of days.
I will tell you now though, that after the March Rep. Maxine Waters was introduced by a man who said she should be President. Lots of people cheered at that. These are the people we need. The Dem leadership is as Corporate run as the Repugnitz. Just a lot less successful. No Reids, Kerrys, Corzines, Kennedys, Pelosis showed up. All of them were invited. Gutless bastards all.
your fellow Human
Gutless bastards? International A.N.S.W.E.R. was organized by out-and-out Trotskyites, and as much as I loathe the war and think Bush is a fucking weenie, I'd rather let a defender of the human values speak for me than folks that would just as soon as put a bullet in my brain come the revolution as march with me in solidarity. My people got out of Soviet Russia by the skin of their teeth. I'd rather not lend these clowns any credibility.
Lil Bo, The subject of the Day was Bring the Troops Home Now. The permit holders ANSWER(Communist) and United For Peace And Justice were a very small portion of the attendees. Do you really think Communism poses a threat? Does the Corporate control of our Government and not The People pose a more immediate threat? Your simplistic labeling of all the people there as lending credibility to Communists is absurd. The march was made up of a cross spectrum of society. Except for one contingent that was absent. The Corporate owned Congress members. This was the most "on one message" demonstration I have been in.
You say you loathe the War. If you had come you would of met a lot of people who are good and kind and many a defenders "of the human values" speaking for you. Your voice was missed. You would have also come across the Communists handing out their literature. I just told them no thank you and either kept going or told them "it'll never work" and kept going. The most often response to them was either a no thank you or "Communism kills" or words to that effect.
I just want a Government by and for The People. Nothing less.

As soon as I posted the above I went to truthout and found the best vid of the Sept. 24th March yet. Lil Bo you really need to watch it.
http://www.truthout.org/multimedia.htm
"A Massive Convergence For Peace in the Nation's Capitol
A Film by Chris Hume | 09.24.05"
Do you think at the very least the young man depicted was exposing the human values you want?
If the permit holders were the American Nazi Party, or Lydon LaRouche, would it still have been cool with you? No, communism isn't a threat, any more than the take over of the US by Scientologists, but both communists and Scientologists tend to be creeps, and the association thereof can piss away your credibilty.
What is the GOP guy on the fence in Pueblo think when he sees this shit on TV?
Were the Puppet People there? Was a papier mache Bush hung in effigy? Did someone want to Free Mumia? I went to anti-war march out here and jesus... do these people want to actually change anyone's mind? What are the purposes of the marches/protests?
Was it to protest The Corporate control of the Government and Not the People? Or was it to call bullshit on the war?
And I do loathe the war. So, let's have a war protest that can change minds.
Lil Bo, so when are you going to put such a protest together? What is your idea of such a protest? You obviously did not see the vid I suggested. You obviously have a very narrow view of what took place and nothing I suggest will change your mind.
If you want to put a protest together that "will change minds" good luck. Most people wouldn't want to go through your pre-certifacation process. What are you going to ask them "Are you now or have ever been a member of the communist party? What other hoops do want people to gladly jump through?
What have you done to stop the War you loathe? So, keep sitting on your ass tapping on keys, while people who have human values close at heart are working to end the War you loathe. Just please, stay out of the way. Adults are at work.
your fellow Human
Well, you fucking asshole, I've written letters, I've donated money, and I've walked next to the goddamn giant papier mache puppets, I've argued with strangers and realitives. I brought dip to fucking moveon.org circle jerks. I've been called breeder scum by gay anarchists in ski masks. (To date, I have yet to mix up any papier mache. I'm sorry my commitment is so spotty)And I've also posted to blogs. So, do I "count" now, UberHuman? And guess what dipshit, I work for a goddamn corporation and I like it. I donate my time, through to my corporation, to help with community projects. So I guess I rule Amerikkka (very adult, that... the three K thing). Funny, ruling feels a lot like being shafted.
Does my voice count now in the Revolution of The People Against the Korporate Kommandos of Amerikkka? Can I NOW, in your esteemed and adult opinion, say that protests seem to lack a general purpose? Can I doubt their efficacy? Can I wonder, gee, do forty year old dissent tactics really work anymore, especially since the only ones who seem to have got any better at it is the anarchists, and they just generally break stuff with no purpose? Can I state, with your permission, that in those forty years the government has gotten BETTER at crowd control?
Obviously, the protests will continue. God bless. Pardon me for suggesting that a standing politician would be less than willing to appear at gathering that might in some way be linked to a Trotskyite organization. I'm hopelessly cynical that way. If only I could believe with your sincerity that rythmic chants could cahnge the world? But such is the weakness of my petite bourgeois imagination.
Good luck with adulthood.
Woah, WTF did I just walk in on?
A sibling quarrel. Human wore my Human League t-shirt without asking...AGAIN.
