Because Bush Got High

Got this sent to me from Laura at Can't Keep Quiet, and thought I'd share the bemusement.

Audio track was originally played on the Randi Rhodes show. Not to be confused with Randy Rhoads. I had a dream once where I was on a train (yes, I know, it was a Crazy Train) and walked into a car where Randy Rhoads was hanging out and I got all fangirl on him. I could tell you more, but then you'd swear *I* was high.

This parody just gives pot a bad name, which it already has been villified much more so than is warranted, but this just makes it worse.

Pot should be legal for use by consenting adults. It's been proven safer than any other over the counter medicine as far as complications and side affects are concerned, and is much less of an intoxicant than alcohol. I'm not advocating that everyone should smoke pot, but it's safer than tobacco, alcohol and even aspirin, plus it's costing all of us a fortune in legal enforcement, prosecution, and incarceration costs instead of being another high tax rate income generating commodity.

Legalization would allow the hemp industry to take off. The same acre of hemp has been shown to be able to produce 5-10x the ammount of paper than the current timber industry does (currently it takes 15-20 years per acre to yield any output for paper use, but hemp is renewable yearly), and there is enough leftover fiber from that same acre that can be used in textiles at about 1/2 that as cotton, and that same acre could generate more oil of a higher quality than corn for use in making fuel additives or fuel outright, at a rate of about 1/3 that of corn.
Simply put, Hemp would generate 2-3x the profit potential than any other current US agricultural product, and high quality marijuana would be several times that. So why, if this is a free country, is it illegal??

Bush would probably have better judgement if he did get high.

It certainly couldn't make him any stupider than he already is.

It would certainly free up the DEA to worry about pushers trying to get children hooked on smack and coke.

Let's face it, the War on Drugs has been a costly failure for this country in many ways. Brian C. Bennett has stats all laid out at his very informative site. We dump more and more money into the DEA every year, and it has no measurable effect on drug use.

Shooting up heroin is an incredibly stupid thing to do. But why should it be the responsibility of the government, in a country that's supposed to pride itself on liberty and freedom, to keep consenting adults from doing stupid things to themselves?

Wouldn't the money be better spent on education and treatment programs for people who want to get help, like Law Enforcement Against Prohibition recommends?

(Sorry to soapbox on your blog, Moxie. Couldn't resist a short rant.)

The "War" on everything is costly and is always a failure.
It is meant to be.
How else can they funnel money out?
(And get more money, when it fails All over!)

The next failure will be the rebuilding of New Orleans.
New Orleans has no plans.
They should relocate the historical sections, flood it, then rebuild.
But we'll start tossing money at it.
(it's makes us feel good, especially on days we are running late and flip people off on the freeway, to get home in time for Survivor)
it's we the people that fix problems, not the amount of blood money, or big Gov.
