Bushness As Usual, Plus: Fake Applause?
I didn't watch the speech last night. Partly because I was busy and party because I can't stand to watch him. But I did hear and read some of the highlights. So if you didn't watch it yourself, here ya go:
Bush said nothing new. But CSPAN has the whole thing if you want to see it.
Oh, and this little tidbit is making the rounds on the blogosphere... The only applause that occurred during the speech was prompted by his team to get the soldiers to do it. If you watch the CSPAN video, it occurs around 25:35. I've poked around and found that George Stephanopoulis, Terry Moran and Kelly O'Donnell all made references to the applause having been started by Bush team members. I'm waiting for a clip or two to be up on Crooks & Liars, but you can start to read up about it at DailyKos. Some right-wingers are all up in arms saying that the soldiers were ordered not to clap (which seems awfully silly considering he needs to show how much support he's getting, plus, wouldn't you think that if staffers got people clapping that they would assume it was ok to clap after that?)
There's more I could yip about, like his repeated invokation of 9/11, but what it comes down to is that he said nothing new, his speech didn't appear to be very uplifting, and it came across as a pathetic attempt to grab a few points in the polls. I guess we'll just have to see if it worked.

He said if we left it would turn into a civil war.
Let's see we invaded and toppled the Husseim regime.
So we are fighting against the Iraq's loyal to Sadaam's party.
So it's the US and Other Iraqi's fighting against Sadaam's folks.
Sounds like a civil war to me.
It wasn't very uplifting, was it meant to be?
The good thing, he plugged the Web Site to write and support our Soldiers.
http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/
Think that some of our Celebrities would run shorts on the Big 3 to push support for our troops.
The fact that only 78,000 Emails were sent as of June 29th is disgraceful.
Yes, I would bet it WAS meant to be uplifting, but fell short.
Thanks for alerting us to the website. Perhaps people aren't sending emails through that website because they are sending emails through other means, such as that they know them personally, or are using other support websites to send them.
I don't think 78K emails is disgraceful. If only 78K were sent to our soldiers EVER, I might be surprised, but this one website looks like it did a good job. Maybe I just like under a rock, but I never heard of it. Chances are a lot of people haven't heard of it.
Did president shrub happen to mention which of the internets we are to hook up to so i can run one of them searches to find that website?
Not too sure BIL, but you could check here.
I didn't watch it either. It's unbelievably challenging to watch him. But as planned, I did read the summation on BBCNews. Hey, notice how he had a blue tie and stood before a blue background? Was that a weak attempt to insinuate "true blue" or to appeal to the "blue dems"? Either way, sorry but we're just not that stupid. Stop with the gimmicks and spin already.
