FOX Reporter's Freudian Slip

Just a reminder that FOX News is run by staunch Reps...

Fox Freudian slip: Asman asked Lott why a compromise was needed when "we" had the votes for the nuclear option

Responding to Sen. Trent Lott's (R-MS) suggestion that Senate Republicans had the necessary votes to invoke the so-called nuclear option and that such a step was necessary, Fox News anchor David Asman asked Lott why Republican senators had compromised on the issue. Why compromise, Asman asked, "if we should have done it and if we had the votes to do it." Asman clarified that it was "you guys in the Republican party" who had the votes.

From the May 25 edition of Fox News Live:

ASMAN: You're the chairman of the rules committee. Did Senator [Bill] Frist [R-TN] have the votes to end the filibuster?

LOTT: I believe that he did. It would have been very close. We would have probably gotten a 50-50 tie vote, with the vice president breaking the tie. Perhaps we'd have had 51 before it was over. I do think it's a rule that should be in place because what the Democrats have been doing is not, you know, protecting a rule, they have been causing something different. The filibusters on a serial basis, federal judicial nominees to the appellate courts, was unprecedented for 214 years. So, to put that rule in place saying that it only takes 51 votes to confirm these judges was something I thought we should do. Remember now --

ASMAN: So, Senator, if we should have done it and if we had the votes to do it in the Senate -- if you guys in the Republican Party did -- then why did you need a compromise?

LOTT: Well, you know, I would argue that we probably should have gone forward with the vote, all things considered.

PS: I did a review of "OUTFOXED" a few months ago - read the review, watch the film for yourself and decide if you still want to get your news from those twits.

I've tried to watch CNN, I've tried to watch MSNBC...I can't do it. Maybe I'm too Republican, maybe I have ADHD, I don't know but short of them replacing the Fox logo with a swastika, that's my news station. Truth be told though, I really only watch it for a few programs and as a source of enertainment. I get my news from the internet mostly ie google news searches and the AP.

I think you need to watch (and read) a variety of news sources, both liberal and conservative. Something like putting all your eggs in one basket. Somewhere in the middle you will find the truth, or something resembling it.

Can anyone point me to a news source that has absolutely no slant to any story? Aren't individual stories reviewed/prepared by human editors and producers? Aren't the reporters human? Are anyone of us here completely neutral?

Sometimes I feel bad for watching FOX. I just can't help watching the O'reilly factor or Hannity sometimes. It's not I think they're good, it's that I find them so hilarious, and I always like to see what lies the right is being fed. It's pretty hilarious. The I feel bad because I guess I'm just helping them get ratings.

AS far as new sources go on TV I'd say CSPAN is the best as far as being the least biased. Not to mention actually watching the Senate and Congress is the best way to tell what is going on with the Senate and Congress. Of course it's about as much fun as watching paint dry.

Mox,

"Outfoxed" is a great documentary; a book has also been released based on the film, and goes into more depth on the whole Fox News mission of "fair and balanced" reporting.

As for me...I'm a big fan of Keith Olbermann's show on MSNBC ("Countdown With Keith Olbermann.") You get your news, on occasion segments that slam Bill O'Reilly, and the Michael Jackson Puppet Theater. Good stuff.

It's no better or worse than getting your news from the liberal twits at CNN, CBS, etc. Well, maybe it is better. They rate higher than the other major news outlets combined.

It's one thing to have the ability to watch your Gov't at work WHEN they are in session.

When congress leaves town, THAT'S when to tune into C-SPAN.

C-SPAN Archives make up a bulk of the programming during those times.

It's really a treat.

If you support

3) Participation
4) Diversity

You support C-SPAN.
