I HATE BILL FRIST

When I say I hate someone, I typically have a damn good reason for it, such as my hating Michael Jackson (don't forget to read the amusing "anonymous" comments).

But I have NO PAUSE in saying I HATE BILL FRIST.

"Other than the fact that he's a fucking whackjob, why do you really hate him, Mox?" I hear you thinking...

Because Bill Frist deliberately slaughtered shelter cats.

He admitted to going to animal shelters and pretending to adopt these critters, when he really was taking them back to medical school and practicing his surgical skills on them, killing them in the process.

That is FUCKING SICK.

I love cats. I've had pets of all kinds throughout my life, and cannot possibly think of ever not having them in my household. The two cats I have now were rescued and I found them through Petfinder (best website ever). My beautiful Asia was discovered in a duct-taped canvas bag with 16 other cats that had been tossed in a garbage can. My sweet Loki is the most lovable cat I've ever known and has tolerated everything my 4-year-old daughter can dish out.

To think that this bastard went to shelters pretending to want to give these animals a loving home only to take them to their deaths is disgusting. I don't give a fuck if he's apologized for his behavior. Anyone with a quarter of a brain knows that's fucking wrong on too many levels to count. I fucking hate you, Bill Frist. Fucking asshole.

See I'm not as offended by this as much as a lot of other "liberals." I don't think he should have done it, but he was practicing his medical skills. He wasn't just killing cats for the fun of killing cats.

Of course I live in Wisconsin, and want to be allowed to shoot cats here, so maybe I'm not really the one to say.

Kind of fits his pattern of using whatever means to achieve his desired end. Must not have learned too much since he thought spinal fluid could think. Poor kitties.

I've never liked Frist. He's a nut like Bush, Cheney, DeLay and many others. He uses religion to make people think he's a God-fearing Christian so they let him do what he wants. He'll get his one day. Someday, God will be asking him in person about his lies and he will shake rattle and plummet to deepest pits for it unless he has one helluva good explanation. I'm sorry Moxie :)

Frist is definitely one sicko son of a bitch. And like Jet said, this shows he'll let nothing stand in the way of getting what he wants. If he ever runs for higher office, this will come back to haunt him. Concern about animal rights cuts across all political boundaries.

He's completely amoral and will say or do anything to get what he wants. Hell, I bet he'd even join up with the most far out band of Radical Christians to try and squelch the judiciary. Naahhh.

I'll start by saying I agree with you, M: Anyone who intentionally gets a pet for the express purpose of killing it is sick. While I still eat beef, Frist is still a dink.

My mom manages an animal shelter; has for nearly 2 decades of her life.

Animals who are turned over to a shelter will mostly likely be put to death. Really! The ratio is horrible, something like 1:8 for dogs and 1:15 for cats (1:1000 for anything else), or at least something terribly similar. The vast, vast majority of animals go to that compound to die, and the staff will only tell you this if they think you can handle knowing.

Loose animals - cats, dogs and lizards - need to be shot. Negligent owners of cats, dogs and whatever need to be tried as if they abused a small child. Not because animals are so great, but because we as humans are just no better.

I love animals, but we really need to stop abusing the rights of our neighbours. It's our right to own a pet, in most cases, but it's not our right to inflict our pets on our neighbourhood at random. Exercise the pets, but store them at home, keep them inside where they live twice as long. The domestication of cats and dogs is a two-edged sword, and we need to be responsible humans -- despite what our favourite enablers tell us we can do.

My cats don't get outside, and as long as I don't get complacent they never will. And Never doesn't mean EVery Now and Then. If you've seen the number of feral cats I've seen, you'd treat your animals with the same concern!

My cats are also indoor pets, both fixed so they can get it on all they want and no little ones. I'm a BIG supporter of population control (for both animals AND humans), and one of the things I liked about Petfinder was their requirement that all their adoptees be fixed before adoption.

I can't imagine the amount of life lost in shelters. If I could adopt every single one and give them all the love and attention, I would.

Also, all my life I have been facinated by serial killers - I went into criminal justice in college and everything. The amount of cases I've read where the killer started by torturing and killing animals is startling.

I'm not saying Bill Frist is a serial killer, but the second I read that article, it made me keenly aware of just how little he values life. Having power over a smaller creature and killing it for your own personal gain is VERY powerful statement to one's personality.

The deception was certainly deplorable. Your courageous stance against doomed animals being used to train surgeons to save human lives is duly noted. I'm a vegetarian. How 'bout you?

Ah, another courageous Anonymous post. And for the record, I eat meat, but I don't get my meat from the animal shelter.

I believe the point Moxie was trying to make was not that the use of animals in medical school is wrong, but that going to an animal shelter and pretending to adopt a cat so you could perform your own (presumably) unsanctioned experiments on it is wrong.

I highly doubt most reputable medical schools encourage unsupervised surgical practice by their students. Otherwise, why didn't he just obtain one of the animals the school had on hand? Why the need for subterfuge and duplicity?

I don't think I could restate anything KB said any better than her already did.

And don't try and tell me that medical students are SO deprived of skill strengthening lessons that they need to go to shelters and lie about their intentions in order to get enough practice to save lives.

This is also the fucktard that looked at a goddamn video and made a medical diagnosis. Insert suitable snarky remark here.

"Ah, another courageous Anonymous post."

My blogger password doesn't work. I have no website. My email is supernaturalrabbitscribe@yahoo.com. I'm now as onymous as anybody else here.

"And for the record, I eat meat, but I don't get my meat from the animal shelter."

So only cats and dogs ought to be spared needless suffering?

"I believe the point Moxie was trying to make was not that the use of animals in medical school is wrong, but that going to an animal shelter and pretending to adopt a cat so you could perform your own (presumably) unsanctioned experiments on it is wrong."

As I acknowledged immediately: "The deception was certainly deplorable."

"I highly doubt most reputable medical schools encourage unsupervised surgical practice by their students. Otherwise, why didn't he just obtain one of the animals the school had on hand? Why the need for subterfuge and duplicity?"

"And don't try and tell me that medical students are SO deprived of skill strengthening lessons that they need to go to shelters and lie about their intentions in order to get enough practice to save lives."

Mmmm... I dunno 'bout that. I do know that you should never run a "Kittens- Free to good home!" advertisement unless you don't mind deceptive vivisectionists snapping 'em up. Always charge a little something. This sort of thing may be more common than we'd like to think. In any event, if your issue with Frist is that he lied, I apologize. As a conservative private property strict-constructionist, I wholeheartedly agree that the shelters can make one agree to take reasonably good care of the critters as a condition to releasing them, and one is bound to comply. I assumed that the problem was that they were cutting up kitties in the first place. People who (unlike me) object in principle to animals suffering in medical research yet (unlike me) eat meat piss me off.

Fair enough, Supernatural Rabbit Scribe.

My snarkiness about the anonymous comment was in reference to other anonymous posts that were somewhat more...colorful than yours.

My main problem was with the fact that Frist claimed to be giving the cat a good home, and instead took it home and cut it up. I support the use of animals in medical research, though I prefer it be done within the confines of the lab, and not someone's dorm room.

Also, I believe there is a difference between someone (like me) who eats meat and someone who (unlike me) deliberately tortures an animal. And yes, I realize that most of the animals I eat are not raised under the most humane conditions, which is why I would not call myself an animal rights activist.

That said, I think I'm still entitled to the opinion that taking a cat home from the shelter and slicing it up is pretty fucked up, and belies Frist's pretense to virtue.

I was always a little leery of shelter cats. Too many of them have been mistreated and will just hide under your bed for the next fifteen years. Got lucky with my new cat, Ahmed Chalabi. She was a stray hanging around my building. Started feeding her, then let her into the heated lobby on cold days, finally just snagged her and tossed her into my apartment on a risk-free trial basis. She hopped right into the laundry basket and said, "Hmmm... I get free grub, shelter, and sanitary facilities and you get... me. Got yourself a deal!" It's been twue wub ever since.

See? Right-wingnuts are people too.

Never said you WEREN'T people, just that yer a buncha wingnuts. ;)

I understand that realistically, some animals need to be tested on to help discover life-saving drugs, etc. And I eat meat as well - I don't like the way animals are mass-bred and slaughtered, but I don't live on a farm in the 1800's. I live in New Jersey, where the local farms I remember from my own youth (and I'm not that old) are long gone to make way for McMansions.

I can't save all the animals of the world, but I can certainly object to this motherfucker being a slimy bastard.

So big smooches to a fellow cat-friend. :)

Bill Frist's evil goes much deeper than his cat killing days unfortunately. Soon after 9/11 when george bush passed his homeland securities bill, an annonymous person attached a rider to it at the last minute making it impossible for families of autistic children to sue Eli Lily pharmeceuticals for possibly causing their kid's developmental disabilities. There is overwhelming evidence that shows that high levels of mercury (we know this to be a potent neurotoxin)used as a preservative they called THIMEROSAL in early childhood MMR vaccines can cause neurological impairment such as autism. Once Eli Lily came under heat, even though they knew they couldn't be sued, they still stopped making new vaccines with thimerosal. As for the old surplus? rumor has it all the "infected" vaccines have been sent to under developed countries. Where does Bill Frist come into play? Well, many think he was the one who attached the rider top the homeland securities act before it had a chance to be voted on, seeing as how he is so adamantly in favor of protecting eli lily as is stated on his own website. It doesn't take a genius to realize that the money which eli lily donated to the GOP was well spent. God bless America.
