I Don't Make This Stuff Up

Major props to AMERICAblog, Raw Story and the Washington Post.

After Republicans LIED THROUGH THEIR TEETH and tried to blame Dems for drafting this memo in order to stir up controversy, a legal counsel to Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) ADMITTED WRITING THE "TALKING POINTS" MEMO re: Terri Schiavo that everyone and their mother denied existed.

In part, the memo said:

This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue.

This is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida has already refused to become a cosponsor and this is a tough issue for Democrats...

AMERICAblog has a copy of the actual document.

Washington Post reported:

Martinez, the GOP's Senate point man on the issue, said he earlier had been assured by aides that his office had nothing to do with producing the memo. "I never did an investigation, as such," he said. "I just took it for granted that we wouldn't be that stupid. It was never my intention to in any way politicize this issue."

Nope, you ARE that stupid. Because being drunk on power allows you to make STUPID moves.

Like thinking Tom DeLay is ethical. THAT's really stupid. Because more scandals are breaking. I can barely keep them all straight.

There's this scandal, which involves doctors paying fees to be awarded "Physician of the Year" awards:

To see what the award process was all about, Mueller sent in his $1,250 contribution and ABC News paid for his travel to Washington for the scheduled events March 14-15, which included a tax-reform workshop as well as appearances by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and President Bush.

Mueller soon found he was not the only winner. There were hundreds of Physicians of the Year present, many of whom found the criteria for being selected equally as opaque...

The Republicans, under the direction of DeLay, came up with the idea for the awards five years ago as a means of helping to raise funds for the congressional campaign efforts for their party.

Then there's this one talking his paid-for stay at a beachfront resort in Saipan.

Wow - you really don't like a certain group of people, do you? About the quote "Fighting for peace is like f***ing for virginity" - can you name the last time peace was achieved in the history of civilization without fighting for it? This country (the U.S.) has been through periods of peace, but we've had to fight for it when others tried to pry it from our grip. Why would any other situation on any other scale be any different? From the schoolyard bully to an oppressive and brutal regime, unless you're excercising freedom, you're not at peace.

I'd sure like not to fight, but submission being the only other choice, you bet your ass I will fight for my freedom.

Have you ever heard Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit"?

Remember when they used to lynch black men for looking at a white woman? This rarely happens anymore, due in a HUGE part by the non-violent civil disobediance originally encouraged by Ghandi and then later with Martin Luther King Jr. Civil rights activists didn't need to take up arms and kill people to change the way freedoms were unevenly doled out among different races.

Feel free to read more about Dr. King here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King_Jr.

Interestingly, it also highlights how our own government prefers violence over peace:

"James Earl Ray confessed to the shooting and was convicted, though he recanted his confession days later. In 1999, Coretta Scott King, King's widow (also a civil rights leader), along with the rest of King's family won a wrongful death civil trial against Loyd Jowers, who claimed to have received $100,000 to arrange King's assassination. The jury of six whites and six blacks found that "governmental agencies were parties" to the assassination plot."

No one has tried to pry our freedom from our grip - I do not understand why you are making that statement. Hijacking planes and flying them into the WTC was not an attempt to take away our freedoms, unless you'd like to count the steps the Bush administration has gone to to remove our personal freedoms (i.e. Patriot Act and Patriot Act II: Electric Bugaloo).

And yes, I do not like the practices and statements made by certain people. No, I do not agree that I "dislike a certain group of people" - that would be tantamount to bigotry. I know many Republicans (luckily most do not approve of the current administration), but it's the ones that are standing behind Bush kissing his ass regardless of what he does and assisting him in his agendas that really piss me off.

Thanks for stopping by!

You handled that brilliantly! Nice job. It never ceases to amaze me that any attack on American imperialism is equated with an attack on our freedom. I also have to wonder if Todd is in the military now.

I'd feel bad for him if he was in the military, but I suppose if he feels strongly enough to fight for what I truly believe are lies and misconceptions, then more power to him. Hope he stays safe.
