These people are so close-minded as to think that a.) sexual orientation is learned (as if gays and lesbians WANT to be discriminated against and treated as second-class citizens), b.) that just because someone isn't heterosexual that they should be equated with pedophiles, and c.) Talton would rather these kids grow up in orphanages than loving homes.

Texas House Bill Bars Gay Foster Parents
Texas could become the only state to bar gays from becoming foster parents under legislation passed Wednesday by the House.
The ban is part of a bill to revamp the state's Child Protective Services agency. It passed 135-6 with two abstentions and now heads to the Senate.
"It is our responsibility to make sure that we protect our most vulnerable children, and I don't think we are doing that if we allow a foster parent that is homosexual or bisexual," said Republican Rep. Robert Talton, who introduced the amendment.

Oh, ideally not. I will grant that the idea that same-sex attraction is chosen or learned is a bit silly. As you point out, with all the crap gay people have to put up with, what's the payoff? Anyway, anti-gay folks are often so revolted by the idea of gay sex you wonder how they can envision anyone freely choosing it. Is active homosexuality morally wrong? I believe it is, but that belief stems from my religious faith, not from a purely rational basis. Might the preference be reinforced over time? Sure. Do we all start out a sexual tabula rasa and some of us pick partners of the same sex just to freak out Rep. Robert Talton? I think not...

How do you reconcile the difference between your religious doctrine and your rational thought?
This has always been why I can't be religious. I have never accepted that whatever higher being there might be would do anything but accept you for the person you are, or simply not care who you are at all... Similar to how we think of atoms - we know they are there, but I'm not all that concerned about them.
It just seems incredibly silly that some Invisible Cloud Being is sitting around angry at one of the nearly 7 billion people for masterbating. To me, it actually sounds pretentious, as though we are so damn important that this dude makes enough time to give a fuck if two dudes get it on.

That is so sick. I had a gay brother, and have been friends with some beautiful people who are gay...and one guy in particular looked me in the eye and said, "Do you really think I would choose this for myself? To be hated, and harrassed and always be in danger?" I never discriminated against anyone before then, but I realized at that moment that there was nothing deviant about being gay. It amazes me that people just can't allow for any biological differentiations. It wasn't so long ago that people like me were thought to be souless and without redemption because of my biology. Really, ignorance is ignorance whether someone uses the Bible to support it or not.
...And, my brother was raising a very handsome, and well adjusted son before he died (and my nephews mother is a lesbian at that). There is nothing "strange" about him now that he is a teenager...it did not rub off on him or influence him. From my own experiences, the people who are most dangerous to the welfare of children are hetero.

I think you missed the point. It's apparently common practice in Texas for hetrosexual parents to engage in sex with their children, or at least, in sex in front of their children. How else are they supposed to learn? Hence Texans who fear homosexual parents. When it's gays doing it, it's abuse. When it's hetrosexuals doing it, it's all right.
But it makes you wonder ... ok, makes me wonder anyway ... those gay cowboys and cowgirls out in Texas. Did they have gay parents? Well, their parents wouldn't think so. But I suspect there must have been latent homosexuality for the gay kids to result. By extension of the Texan warp logic, this all makes sense.

Not unless you would like to defeat your own argument. I believe at that point you were saying that there is no connection between gay people and pedophials.
What is a gay dude in the sixties to do. He would really only fit in at the "YMCA" or the Catholic Church. Back then there was even less tolerance and much higher likelyhood of something bad happening to you. Im going to hypothesize that many gay men back then became Catholic priests. After all they would atone for their "sins"(mental disorder) by serving "god". Also it was normal for them to not have any sex at all...perfect for a gay man who did not want to be gay. Finally their gentle natures made them suitable priests. Unfortunately we all know how this story ends(in prison).
Finally I will cite a very compelling personal account. My father has been rumored gay all his life and he still really acts gay. Before meeting my mom HE was going to be a Catholic priest of all things. Hmmmm. He went on to have 8 kids with my mother and TO MOLEST TWO OF MY SISTERS.
The point is that homosexuality is one version of a much broader disorder and if you think this person should be allowed to raise children I sugest you think again. Homosexuality was taken off the list of mental disorders in 1973 and this decision was PURELY political.

After reading the comments, it seems to me that people on many sides of homophobia issue are more angry than anything else. Why can't we communicate with each other without the hate or death wishes?
Where is the evidence to support that homosexuality is or is not inherited or genetic? All of the responses that I read were full of emotion, opinions, and hatred.
If you look it up, however, you will find that homosexuality is one of many deviant behaviors. Less than 10% of essentially all cultures or societies.
Moreover, the same sex relationships in the bible were friendships; I am familiar with the stories of Ruth and Naomi, Jonathan and David, and Jesus and John yet, I have never even read anything in any version of the bible that suggest that these were sexual relationships but friendships. However, the men of Sodom wanted to have sex with the angels that took the form of other men.
Finally, I appreciate the site and I like the intensity displayed here but, what good is it?
