DeLay, The Desperate Hours

Good God, man. Learn from Kenny Rogers and know when to fold 'em, you happy little idiot! Sending a six-page email (single-spaced, mind you) to your "friends" ranting about how the evil Dems are behind your problems is not going to help you. You just look like an even bigger moron!

In a message e-mailed to supporters in his suburban Houston district that was provided to The Washington Post yesterday, DeLay blamed the reports on Democrats, liberal groups and the "legion of Democrat-friendly press" who were trying to undermine Republican control of Congress. "It is abundantly clear that their fundamental strategy revolves around attacking me and working to tear down Republican leadership," he said.

DeLay said in the message, titled "What the Press Isn't Telling You" and covering about six single-spaced pages, that his overseas trips were "proper" and "properly vetted and undertaken" and that if there were any question about the source of funding for that travel, no member of Congress "should be responsible for deceptive behavior by outside organizations."

He stressed that he has never been found in violation of any law, and that the three admonitions from the ethics committee did not constitute a "sanction."

"It would be quite easy to write an entire book about how Democrats, and many in the press, have chosen to selectively report and strategically ignore many FACTS about me and my work as Congressman for the 22nd District," DeLay wrote.

His written statement is an effort to rally support after a week in which two House Republicans urged him to step aside as leader and former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said it was time for DeLay to stop blaming Democrats and do more to explain himself and address the mounting criticism. While DeLay did not offer any new details about the ethics controversies, the e-mail wraps together many of the individual arguments DeLay and his aides have used to try to deflect or respond to the criticism.

Quite frankly, the Dems aren't organized enough to launch such a Rupublican-type smear campaign on this joker. They're still getting themselves together. His claims simply make him look even more desperate and pathetic. Way to go, jackass!

You know, I half want the SOB to stick around for a while. He's the true face of the Republican party, and the constant negative attention can only help our cause. That said, can I keep from throwing up every time his name is mentioned? We'll see.

This man is paranoid, and for good reason. He believes in the Rovian gospel when it comes to political smear. Rove is the master and the desciples all think that they are equally vulnerable. You are right about the Dems not having anyone half the calibre of Rove, but that doesn't mean the reichwingers don't fear that there might be someone they don't know about sticking it to them.

Oddly, this is the "do unto others" problem. If they do it to us, then they expect it to be done to them. There in lies the double edges sword toward deep paranoia..which leads them to dish more fear to a hungry set of constituents...

Fear mongers thrive when their message is heard and celebrated...And, particullarly, they relish mongering fear when it pertains to themselves.

Don't buy it.

Democracy For America is running a slogan contest for a billboard they intend to host in DeLay's district.

I wonder what, if any, impact it will have....

FYI, the winning Anti-DeLay slogan is:

"Corporations spent millions to send Tom DeLay golfing, and all you got was this billboard."

Kind of humerous, but pretty muted considering the material available, no? Maybe they're in agreement with Brother Kenya and, seeing the benefit in keeping him around too, chose this rather benine statement.

Interesting....

Yeah, I was not very impressed by the winning slogan. I thought there were several that were much better.
